Hello! After an extended period of continuous research and contemplation, I have ultimately decided to proceed with the surgery. My surgery is set for April 18th, and arrangements for PT, transportation, etc., have been made with the AFA team. The initial reason behind considering this surgery was related to sabotaging thoughts concerning my height. Despite not being considered short in comparison (173 cm), we all have varying perceptions of our body that should be respected. Over the past 2 years, this forum has been extremely helpful in understanding various aspects of limb lengthening (LL). I am sincerely thankful for this community and aim to contribute as much as possible to prospective patients who genuinely believe this surgery can significantly impact them both mentally and physically. I intend to provide updates until the 1-year milestone, after which I will fade away like many previous patients. This decision stems from a desire to permanently put the concept of height behind me and move forward with my life. Recognizing that LL is a risky and lengthy process, I would not have considered it if I didn’t believe it could profoundly influence my mental well-being. Witnessing negativity and skepticism expressed in patient diaries is disheartening, and it’s crucial to acknowledge that it is entirely unacceptable to treat patients in such a manner when they are openly sharing their stories out of goodwill. Therefore, if I come across such toxicity here, I may cease posting. For those genuinely interested, you can still contact me via email or message me on IG.

If you have any inquiries, feel free to ask here, and I will respond promptly.
That’s all from me for now, take care!

Congrats on eventually taking that step! Since I joined this forum, I find that AFA is considered reliable based on the journals I’ve come across, and I am seriously considering them as they are not as aggressively promoted as some other agencies. I also intend to have LL Tibias done this year and target a 6CM lengthening, which is around 15% of my Tibial length, to correct my slightly bow-legged posture with Genu Valgum. I have a few queries for you and would greatly appreciate your response!
1. Do you know if your surgeon focuses more on Femurs or Tibias?
2. Are you planning to remain in Turkey for the entire distraction phase?
3. Will you opt for Ilizarov frames or Monorail fixators as your external devices?
4. How much lengthening do you aim for?
Thanks, and I anticipate your reply!00 -

Hello
Certainly, throughout my investigation phase AFA was remarkable too. This was due to their policy of not disclosing their patients’ identities unless explicitly requested. Additionally, the physicians they collaborate with are exceptionally skilled and have impressive track records to my knowledge. Achieving a 6 CM extension in tibias is indeed feasible, although the process becomes more challenging after reaching 5 cm, requiring attentiveness to your body and avoiding excessive greed for an additional 1 cm or so. To address your inquiries:1- Based on my research findings, Dr.Uysal has performed numerous CLL surgeries on both the Femur and tibias with remarkable outcomes, indicating his capability to conduct surgeries on either segment without issues.
2- Definitely! LL surgery is highly complex, necessitating regular monitoring by your physician to proactively identify and prevent potential obstacles. Dr.Uysal schedules visits with his patients at least once a month (sometimes biweekly) to ensure everything progresses smoothly. This aspect significantly influenced my decision in selecting him. Indeed, LL should not be taken lightly.
3- Initially, my plan was to opt for monorails. However, following my consultation with Dr.Uysal, I opted for Ilizarov frames instead. The rationale behind this choice is his emphasis on the lower likelihood of tibial deformities with Ilizarov frames compared to monorails (which can induce valgus). Moreover, the pins at the top and bottom of Ilizarov frames effectively stabilize the fibula to the tibia, preventing any shifts, particularly in the ankle region, thus reducing the risk of future arthritis. Although bulkier, I prioritized decreased complication and deformity risks, hence my selection of Ilizarov frames.
4- My target is a 5.5 cm extension, but if challenges arise beyond 5 cm, I may consider settling for 5.2 or 5.3 cm. Therefore, I remain hopeful for a successful outcome!

Congratulations on your journey! I am currently undergoing femur lengthening through Limb Lengthening (LL) and I am extremely satisfied with the care and expertise provided by Dr. Uysal and the staff. Specifically, Omer, my main point of contact, has been exceptional. They surprised me with a basket of goodies right after my surgery. Let me tell you, waking up from surgery and being handed ice-cold juice feels heavenly. It’s the small things that matter, you know?I adore the hotel. The breakfast buffet is divine. I just started the lengthening process yesterday and I feel fantastic. I experience minimal pain, but I do get very tired after just a few steps. I am 179cm tall and aiming to increase my height by 8cm. Due to my athletic physique and active sports involvement, my healing plan is slightly adjusted. Weighing 104kg, I cannot walk all day to avoid risking the bending of my LON nails. Therefore, I strictly follow the instructions given during physical therapy, and everything is progressing smoothly so far. Special thanks to Farooq, Mahmood, and the individual responsible for changing my dressings. Your professionalism and patience are truly commendable.
Dr. Uysal is exceptional. He is approachable, kind, truthful, efficient, and supportive. You couldn’t wish for better hands to be in.

I appreciate your response! I believed that the screws placed at both the proximal and distal end would guarantee correct alignment concerning the Tibia and Fibula? I will be closely adhering to your instructions and I hope you find success in your future pursuits!00
