- in reply to: Affordable doctor for tibia surgeries
pacifiedPaella: The idea that American doctors charge 2-3 times more than doctors in the rest of the world want you to believe that “you get what you pay for” is not true.
While there are some negative results in other countries, choosing a reputable surgeon (not a Turkish butcher), setting realistic limb lengthening goals, and allowing enough time for the process can lead to a successful outcome at a lower cost.
Vietnam offers a good option for limb lengthening surgery for $20k, with some positive experiences shared in diaries. If you prefer femurs/internal nails, Greece provides this option for $45k. It is unnecessary to donate $100k to Paley just because of the belief that “you get what you pay for”.
Hate to break it to you but as someone that has done business all over the world closely tied to tech and politics I can say that not all countries have equal standards. The layman’s eyes cannot evaluate risk. You are not paying a premium for the same results, you are paying a premium to reduce your risk.

- in reply to: Turkey or Vietnam for limb lengthening?
takci: The hate is totally pointless. Turkey did this surgery for years at cheap prices and even sold to Europe and China. I’m European myself and had my surgery in Turkey, during my stay I met like 50 other limb lengthening patients there and never saw anyone with serious problems. I even did it with my childhood friend, we stayed together. We both did LON. I gained 7.8 cm and he gained 7.6 cm, exactly what we aimed for.
Turkey kept the prices fair for a long time. Later when prices went up worldwide, Turkey’s prices also rose and I think that’s why people started hating. But the doctors there gained insane experience thanks to the high patient traffic. While a German doc might do 2–3 surgeries a month, Turkish docs were doing 10+ a month. Do the math. More surgeries means better skills and performance.
I’m not defending anyone or getting paid. I’m just telling it like it is as someone who’s been through it. After my surgery I even dedicated myself more to this field and I’ll go back to Turkey again. I don’t think much of Vietnam, met someone who went there and his experience wasn’t positive. Honestly don’t even consider it.
I’m undergoing lengthening at the Paley now and they do up to 6 surgeries per day. Their main practice is not even stature lengthening, it’s more complex corrective surgery and fixing botched lengthenings from other countries.
