Deciding between the two nails. I’m quite convinced by the weight-bearing types, but uncertain about which one/technique to select.

The Guichet nail appears notably more affordable (nail and Greece living costs). Does anyone have any input or recommendations to offer? I might overlook certain aspects, but it appears that Betzbone doesn’t offer considerably more benefits than the Guichet nail to validate the higher expense.

    All opinions are appreciated.

Consider which physicians conduct the surgeries and review their CVs (previous qualifications, ortho and limb lengthening experience, etc).

Choose the physician first and then proceed with the nail they utilize.

Dr. Betz excessively extends the limbs of nearly every patient, and from what I’ve gathered, does not perform IT band release, a critical procedure. If a weightbearing nail is necessary, I would opt for Dr. Giotikas as he is not only superior but also more affordable.

      Good morning

I am planning to undergo 8cm femur limb lengthening with Betzbone because it is convenient for me as I am in Germany. I have come across the term IT band release, but I am unsure about its implications. I tried to search for information online, but I am not sure what to expect if I don’t undergo this procedure.

      Thank you

As limb lengthening progresses, the muscles, especially the IT Band, become tighter and more difficult to stretch, hindering further lengthening. Failure to perform this technique may lead to the development of a duck-ass. However, when IT Band release is discussed, little attention is given to its negative impacts, such as one runner tearing his meniscus twice. It remains unclear whether this incident was a direct result of the surgery or simply an unfortunate coincidence. Nonetheless, most limb lengthening patients prioritize the procedure over concerns about their athletic performance.

Your instance is ITB at the knee. I would have assumed LL ITB is performed at a higher level.

G-Nail and Betzbone are virtually indistinguishable. Both represent slight alterations of the initial Albizzia nail.

Giotikias is preferred by seasoned orthopedic surgeons. Becket also refrains from performing ITB release, a procedure essential for individuals aiming to undergo limb lengthening beyond a few centimeters.

I am unaware of the past. However, when I underwent the procedure, I received a gentle IT band release along with my operation using Betzbone.

Becker handles IT release. Not sure why this continues to be repeated, as it has probably been mentioned around 100 times on this forum for over a year. Betz did not handle it, but Becker does, and Betz is now completely out of the picture.
